Not feeling on top of the world right now? Here are some ‘feel-good’ suggestions that will turn your negative feelings and emotions into positive ones instantly.
Happy Music – Turn on your favourite (happy and upbeat) music and sing along. Better still, move those hips and feet and put some energy into it. You’ll get those endorphins crankin’ and coursing through your body and you’ll find it pretty hard to stay down.
Call a friend or family member – Have a good chat with your friends or loved family members. Share your woes and ask for help finding a solution. Once you’ve covered the things that are bothering you, move onto some positive topics so that you feel better when you get off the phone.
Plan a fun activity – This will give you hope and something to look forward to. You can
organise that picnic you’ve been meaning to for ages, or organise a bikeride/horseride/hike up the mountain. As long as it makes you feel more enthusiastic and excited.
Fill your house with flowers – Who can resist the cheeriness and colour of flowers? Even better if they smell nice!
Open your shades and let the sun in – A brighter living area or work area will lighten your mood instantly. Humans flourish in the light, light helps us heal and stimulates growth.
Go for a walk in the fresh air – There are so many studies about the benefits of fresh air and moving your body. It is one of the first things that psychologists recommend to help people overcome depression. Go for at least 30 minutes if you can to really kick-start the release of endorphins and dopamines into your body. They are our natural feel-good chemicals.
